Red Devil Community,
The most important aspect of our graduation planning process has been consideration for your student's safety and the safety of your family. That being said, it is our hope that over the summer months, the current pandemic conditions will ease, allowing sates to begin reopening. In the event that mass gathering and school facility guidelines are adjusted or lifted in Ohio, it is our intent to hold a traditional, in-person graduation during the months of July or August. School facilities, including stadiums, are currently closed per the Ohio Department of Health through June 30th. In the meantime, we want to ensure that our students are not left completely unrecognized should sate, national and global conditions not improve over the summer months. Here is our plan:
Virtual Graduation Plan
On May 23rd and 24th, during assigned time slots from 11AM until 5PM, seniors will report to the High School Gymnasium in their cap and gown and honor cord (if applicable). We will be presenting diplomas and filming these individual presentations. Seniors were provided a time slow reminder slip with their cap and gown, and a schedule will be posted on the school's website and our Facebook page. Students will be permitted to bring four people with them to this event. The remaining five spots must be reserved for production team members to ensure a quality product. Should the state ease the mass gathering ban on ten or more people, this limit may be adjusted. The video footage from these two days will be edited and compiled into a video commencement of all our seniors. In addition, a professional photographer will be available to take a photograph of each student and a complimentary 8x10 photograph will be provided by the district to each senior. A complimentary DVD recording of the ceremony will also be provided to each senior.
On June 5th, at 7PM, a full virtual ceremony will be streamed live on multiple platforms and will include:
- A presentation of our top ten, valedictorian and salutatorian.
- Keynote speeches from school leadership and the Class President.
- Special musical performances from our band and choir students.
- The video commencement compiled from footage taken on May 23rd and 24th.
- An airing on WTOV9 in early June (date is tentative).
The Virtual Ceremony is not a contingency plan. It is a way to ensure our students are honored in the event pandemic conditions do not change over the summer. Should they ease, it is our intent to hold an additional in-person ceremony.
All the best,
Justin Sleutz, Principal, STCHA
