BOARD OF EDUCATION SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT FOR USE OF FEDERAL FUNDS

Following the regular Board of Education meeting on May 15, 2019 at 7:00 a.m., a special public meeting will be held to seek the public’s input for the use of Federal funds, specifically for Title I and IDEA Part B grant funds in the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District. Title I is utilized to provide intervention for elementary students in the areas of reading and mathematics. It may also be used for professional development. IDEA Part B funds help pay for the excess cost of providing special education and related services to children and youth with disabilities ages 3-21. Monies may be used to provide supplementary aides and services in a regular class or other educational setting to a child with a disability to meet that child’s unique needs as identified in their Individual Education Plan. Funds may also be used to support professional development activities to general and special education teachers as well as families of children with disabilities.

Anybody who knows of a child or youth between the ages of 3-21 who is suspected of a disability or a handicapping condition should notify the school district. Handicapping conditions, as defined in Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities include: autism, cognitive disability, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, traumatic brain injury and visual impairment.

The St. Clairsville-Richland City School District welcomes any referrals, suggestions, or questions in regard to the expenditure of these funds. Questions may be directed, by phone, to Diane Thompson at 740-695-1624, or by email at diane.thompson@stcschools.com, or by mail at 108 Woodrow Avenue, St. Clairsville, OH 43950.

MESSAGE FROM NURSE KERRY SHEPHERD

Ohio vaccine laws to attend public schools have changed. ALL students entering grades 7 through 12 in the fall must have proof of Meningoccal vaccine before school begins. Existing law also includes one dose of Tdap for all 7th grade students.
If proof of these vaccines is not provided to the school within 15 days of the beginning of the school year, the student will be excluded from school until proof is obtained.
Please feel free to contact me at 740-699-2210 with any questions.
